Welcome

The Signal Theory and Communications doctoral program originated in 1987. The program provides scientific training in the following areas, all of which are connected to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT):

1. Signal processing and communications: theory of communication and information; audio and speech processing; image and video processing

2. Communications Systems: network planning, operation, and management; mobile communications; optical communications

3. Microwaves, photonics, and remote sensing: remote sensing, image formation, and value-added products; RF and microwave circuits and systems; antennas; nanosatellites; optical, photonic systems, and applications.

These areas are directly related to the research topics addressed by the Signal Theory and Communications (TSC) Department, where research is conducted by  autonomous research groups that regularly collaborate with groups from other departments, universities, and research centers. The covered research areas often involve the participation and leadership of thematic networks and European projects with a significant number of national and international partners. These collaborations always involve, directly or indirectly, the candidates in this PhD program, as the research they conduct is integrated into these projects.

The Signal Theory and Communications program is one of the eight doctoral programas in the area of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) at UPC. The program is integrated into an environment that provides various facilities for research, such as laboratories, scientific IT infrastructures, bibliographic bases, and conference organization, among others, and has repeatedly received awards for internationality and quality from both the Spanish and Catalan governments.
